These transient orcas are true killer whales, as they feed only on marine mammals. We were fortunate to spot this small family group hunting in the Strait of Juan de Fuca near Victoria, BC. Orcas are apex predators, and therefore are highly vulnerable to bioaccumulation and poisoning from human-made pollution and chemicals.
